As Talyn said, the group interaction and strategy is about 80% of the game! I would suggest that you try it out for a month or two (since it there is no more commitment at that price-point). After you have, check out some of the guilds on your server. Being able to run with a consistent group of people really enhances the play experience. I rarely have near as much fun running quest with a pick-up group as with a guild group.

I've been playing since the game started, and while there have been a few slow times, I am still having a great time in the game. You will too.

You haven't grouped yet? GAH! D&D (and thus, DDO) are all about the grouping! Solo difficulty can be ok to see how a new skill or spell works without embarrassing yourself, or to just explore, but being in groups at the harder difficulties is where the game truly shines.

DDO has a pretty mature community as well, and their LFG tool makes it extremely easy to find or start a group. The only "bad" thing is that a lot of players are vets who know the dungeons inside and out and tend to rush through it all to the parts that give the most xp and favor, often skipping the optional goals. If you're starting a group, I'd suggest putting a note about "no rushing" or something along those lines so the group lets you take in the experience.

If you change your mind, it looks like Age of Conan will have lots of PvE content too... I would just watch for reviews and first impressions (I'm sure Keen will have more to say) and then make a final decision after that.

Just to clarify for those who did not play eq1 the monks have a weight issue as they can't carry much items or they're slowed down in their movement and attacks which is why prefer food for them is bat crunchies or fish rolls which almost have no bearing weight in them.. Have no idea if this has been removed... The weight issue goes also to mage/casters but the attack issue has no bearing being they are mana base attacks rather then physical..

Yes those are cool but but...

Group harvesting will kill the rares drop rate.. for it will really be harder to find them and rare crafted items are already high priced as it is.. Transmuting really did a number on the economy.. S.O.E. should have use a recycling type of thing where as old equipment should have been the one you salvage through transmuting once out-leveled. So it would not have tax the economy that much as it did on treasured items and legendary for which is easier to buy the rare infusion item to make the item then buy the adornment. Example my most use adornment is the vampiric handle the tier 1 and 2 cost silver once made but tier 3, 4, 5 cost from gold to plat where as just the rare to make the item cost gold..

In server comparison I left befallen around the mid of KoS season to vanguard and prices were decent then merger happens and Echoes comes out boon economy inflates like crazy.. Coming back from a fail vanguard in my eyes to eq2 guild in vg makes second edition in Guk server I join go look up prices I was admonish to see things that should cost few silver going for 5-10gold masters that should be going for 20-50gold to 6-8plat comparing to Befallen you can still find cheaper prices in Befallen.. Some guildies response this how this the economy of the server I say that is pure human greed which affects new players starting over where as they have to grind to get where every one is or else go to a new game with cheaper economy. For which has prevented me from going back completely to eq1 as the economy there is worse at least in Luclin/Veeshan back when I left xpansion 9 prices were not high I think highest was about 150k now prices going back 5 xpansion later (14 xpansions upto date) are in the millions the economy has gone nuts in there.. and carrying 1mil plat can put a burden on how much you can carry as the currency weight is taken in to consideration of the weight you can carry with you .. poor monks lol
